Background and Information as of April 2006

The NYFL Utah is somehow related to a Nevada program of a similar name.  As early as May 2001 the NYFL was in Pleasant Grove, claming to have a program in the area,  trying to get fields from PG City, at a discount to use for their "non-profit" league.    They actually started a season in the area in Utah Valley in 2004 and had 200-250 kids from 1st-4th grade.  They were unable to go higher in 5th-8th because of two 30 year old organizations, the Utah Valley Football Conference and the Parks Sportsman league, the Utah Valley Football League.  Both were run well but did not have the 1st to 4th grade football programs.   According to many participants, the 2004 football season was disorganized and disappointing, but for all, something for that age group (1st-4th) anything was better than no football for the 1st to 4th graders.

In 2005,  NYFL football leadership somehow convinced the Utah Valley Football League to join with them on an probationary basis to form a larger valley wide league.  The NYFL was unable to effectively register, equip, schedule and intimately lost support from city leaders, football club leaders, parents and the cheerleading program.   Two websites outline the issues:  www.notyourfootballleague.com  and  http://www.theucfc.com/why-no-NYFL-in%202006.htm.

After the 2005 season, ALL the North Utah County football clubs that made up the former Utah Valley Football League sent letters, via counsel,  to the NYFL informing of their decision to discontinue association with them.  The NYFL claims on their web site that "some of the commissioners from the old league have decided to break off from the NYFL to form their own league".  The fact is ALL the cities and their elected or appointed commissioners,  who were part of the Utah Valley Football League, rejected the trial season and the potential merger.  According to insiders, the NYFL is good at spinning the truth on such matters.

The NYFL is unlikely to be able to field any teams in North Utah County and has been garnering support from the South Utah County (Spanish Fork, Springville, Payson).

It remains to be seen if the NYFL, after registering a few players that accidentally register with them from the Lehi to Linden area, refund their money so the boys can play with their friends.

The Utah County Football Conference was formed to re-unite the former members of the Utah County Football League into their previous 30+ years program.   Because of legal concerns with the NYFL, they were forced not use use the same organizational name.

The cities of Lehi, Saratoga Springs, American Fork, Highland, Alpine, Cedar Hills, Pleasant Grove, Linden, all will be supporting the Utah County Football Conference, the UCFC at www.theucfc.com
